Nestled in the city of Malmö is an old chocolate factory with a bricked and striped chimney that reaches towards the skies. This century-old factory marks the beginning of Swedish chocolate history in 1888. After years of quiet machinery, two chocolate-loving brothers set out to breathe new life into its halls, dreaming of the day the scent of roasted cocoa would once again drift through the city’s alleys. Since 2015, we’ve been part of shaping MALMÖ CHOCOLATE FACTORY’s dreamy narrative – and for their premium gift box, we captured that very soul.
Box Oh! Chocolate is a structural tribute to the factory’s striped chimney silhouette – and the name a playful twist on the classic “box of chocolates.” A premium FSC-paper tube, designed to be tactile and sustainably luxurious. The striped exterior invites you to twist and turn the sections to align patterns and words, creating a kinetic experience that mirrors the brand’s whimsical personality. The journey continues inside; as the tube opens, the name breaks apart to reveal a gold-foiled promise: “Something sweet is about to happen.” We even designed the pralines within, letting them carry the story. Each one striped and embossed with letters from the logotype to spell out M A L M Ö.
Beyond the initial delight, the concept is rooted in longevity and craft. To ensure a versatile solution, the core structure remains consistent across seasons, while specific flavour profiles are identified by hand-applied labels. By naming the batches “Box Oh! No. 1, 2, 3”, we emphasize a boutique “limited drop” feel. This strategy allows the factory to launch new seasonal collections, using the same structural pack, reducing waste while maintaining a high level of desirability. It’s a fusion of nostalgia and modern design – a piece of Malmö’s heritage, reimagined for the chocolate lovers of today.
